Finally we decided a week or so in (after selling off our loot) to try and fight one and we killed a shrouded ghost! Didn't even know it was rare or different. We got the commendation and were like "oh cool you get a title for killing your first meg." After seeing all these posts on reddit I now know beginner's luck is definitely a thing.

So there's a pretty small chance to encounter a megaladon. Around a 1 in 6 chance, so 16% chance. There is a 0.014 percent chance that that megaladon will be a Shrouded Ghost. You can run those numbers yourself, but the odds come down to really fucking rare.
