The XV is Subaru's entry-level car, and for that 'small SUV' segment, it is fairly over-engineered; full-time AWD, flat-four engine (2 x valve trains and cam sets) etc... This does come at a cost though, and AWD will always eat more fuel than 2WD - but this is a small cost toward active safety.

Sometime around 2006 Subaru did away with the metal in-line filter in the engine compartment. and went to the in tank fuel filter. They had clamp problems where the hoses meet the metal causing. fuel leaks and gasoline odors in the cockpit if there was a drastic temperature change.

Got a 2023 Crosstrek Sport at the end of September. Driving a 2013 Crosstrek with 2.0 but the new 2.5 engine has much more pep, especially in sport mode. The car is much more quiet than our 2013 ever was. The old Subaru is loud now because the CVT is going out but I am still driving it. Can not work out what is draining the battery, first time was after the car sitting for 5 days, today was after two days. Are now double checking doors and rear hatch are properly closed, and no interier lights are staying on.
