Every time they have ever retired old practice materials and released new ones, the new stuff has been markedly more difficult. Unfortunately this accurately reflects the exam.

Compared to Step1, most of the exams vary wildly in predictive value. It is much more difficult to get a sense of your potential score from step2 practice exams. The Free 120 is really similar to Step 1 in terms of layout/UI (it is designed exactly like the actual test, which is also exactly like uWorld so nothing special here) and also in terms of content. Free 120 has a good mix of one-liners, semi-long questions, and long stems. The real exam is representative of this.

In my opinion, the tests most similar to Step 1 were the random blocks of 40 questions I did every day and the paired UWorld Self-Assessment 2 and NBME Free 120. Although it was really tiring to do a full seven-hour practice exam, I am really glad I did! It helped me feel more confident going into exam day, and I believe it built up my endurance.
