Ruger security 9 slide stuck.
My Security 9 has had four FTEs across approximately 310 rounds since new. The first two were classic stovepipes and easily cleared. The last two were very odd in that the spent casing stayed in the barrel’s chamber requiring me to use a small wooden dowel to pry the casing out; not good for a home defense/carry gun!
Ruger ec9s slide stuck CLOSED. So I was doing my daily dry firing and did a basic target transition drill with my ruger ec9s. 3-4 times through and at the end of each return to retention and put the slide safety back on. On that last time and the safety wouldn’t slide back to safe. Tried racking the slide and couldn’t get it to move ...Evidently, there is definitely something amiss with the guide rod assembly. As I mentioned above, try to manipulate the guiderod assembly with a dental pick or similiar object while "shaking" the pistol. Put the safety in the off-safe position. If possible, try to move the slide back and forth as you do this.The safety on the SEC 9 pivots from the front of the safety so you have to push up and down on the rear of the lever to engage it. To put the safety on use your support hand because you're done shooting and it doesn't matter which hand you use. A nice gun to shoot. Problem again. A new problem on a brand new gun. Now it's the slide. With the slide locked back, load a mag into the well, the slide releases and loads the chamber all on its own.
It results in a clean gun every time! And, save your money - you do not need to buy patches. Old tee shirts cut to size work great and are free. Step one, clean everything with dry patches (I use old t shirts to make my own free patches!). Step two, clean the inside of the bore with bronze brush and bore cleaner.
Also make sure the ejector is pushed all the way up in the normal position. If it's not, the trigger may not reset properly. Hopefully this will help but it's hard to tell without actually looking at the pistol. 2. I just purchased my lc9 and it feels great except for one major problem. If the slide lock is engaged manually or as a result of the last bullet being ejected I can not release the slide without manually pushing down the lock. I cannot get the slide to release with the slingshot method. *I am left handed. Consider replacing your magazines if the problem persists. Ruger American Pro Compact 9 slide and take down lever stuck. Just pulled brand new gun out of box to disassemble, clean, and lube. Pulled slide to rear and locked in open position. Rotated the take down lever until it stopped. Pulled the slide rearward to drop slide stop and allowed it to move slowly forward.

Ruger calls the lever a "slide hold open" and doesn't recommend you use it to release the slide. They say to slingshot the slide to chamber a round. See the manual. The info is roughly on page 10. The nose of the bullet must slide over and through this concave surface to enter the chamber. If the surface is too rough or is nicked or burred, the bullet can get stuck. However, it’s less apparent why the bolt face needs to be smooth.
