That's still a lot more water than the normal setting where there is only about 1 inch of water. The sensor can detect when the clothing stops soaking up the water and then the water level starts to rise so it shuts off when it reaches an inch or so on normal setting or 5 inches on Deep Water setting and that is all 100% normal.

My Maytag Centennial washer has an automatic water level sensor. The sensor has apparently stopped working and the water level fills to the maximum level regardless of load size. I have studied the schematics and I don't understand which part or parts function to control the water level. Any ideas?
