It takes quite a bit of time for the rotten food to turn into compost -- 3 or 4 weeks, if I remember right. You'll also need a sack to be able to "harvest" the compost from the composter. I have the sack and everything, and I'm pretty sure I've had food in there for a good while, but it just says it's 0% full. Oh!
