Sometimes they get a decent passive skill if levelled up a bit, which you can pass on by fusing, but beyond that there's no reason to keep a persona when a better one becomes an option. I kept Izanagi in my party 24/7 just because I liked him and he's the hero's Persona, but I rarely used him.
