A 16" rifle isn't "crazy." 300 Blackout does great with short barrels, but 16" barrels aren't a "problem" as such. The real issue with a 16" barrel in 300 Blackout is one of gas port position. Because all the powder is burned within 8-9" of barrel length, you probably want a pistol-length gas system, even with a 16" barrel.

Most .300 BLK will not chamber in 5.56 without significant bullet setback. Even if you could get 5.56 into a .300 BLK chamber it wouldn't be particularly dangerous. .300 BLK in a 5.56 chamber will frag the gun.
