If there is signal but no sound it's the speaker. If there is no signal then start back tracking the wires all the way to the head unit looking for damage. If you wanted you could pull the door panel now and attach a length of speaker wire that hangs out of the panel (make sure the two wires don't touch) so when it doesn't work it's a quick check.And again, the speakers work fine.
