The issue that came up was the amount of current the steering unit used when turning the wheel a lot. I have a Mitsubishi MT2201 with a loader and never have felt the steering to be very hard unless setting still with a full loader. Mine is 2wd. The 850 Ford on the other hand is a bear with less than 40lbs of air in the tires.

Funk built a series of conversion kits for the 8N that exchanged the stock inline-four for a flathead inline-six, a flathead V-8, or a Ford industrial overhead-valve 215-cubic-inch inline-six. This final kit, by far the rarest of the three, substantially improved output to 96 horsepower.The motor is a chevy 2.8 v6 out of an 1985 S10 blazer, last year of the carb. You can see it mounted to the 8n trans on photo. Slapped the hood on to check the fit and line up for the axle carrier, which had to be cut and rewelded for clearence of the crankshaft pulley. The 6-cylinders were usually used pretty hard and it not uncommon for the rear differential and housing to have been replaced sometime in the past. Since you cannot drive the tractor, be prepared for the possibility that the ring gear and pinion may need replacing.
