The IH engine is timed on #8 cylinder with firing order 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Factory setting should be at 5 deg before top dead center. I drove a '78 FleetStar back in the early/mid 1980's for a local small trucking co. one winter. Had a 478 CID V8, straight 5-spd, single spd rear axle, was geared to run about 62-65 MPH. Had two 50 gal step gas tanks, one under each door.The externals of a mv block are virtually identical to a 6.9/7.3l diesel. While a t444 May not have as much go as a mv446 you would get there using a third as much fuel. Most mv446's with which I have had experience had a hard time getting 4 mpg and closer to 3 mpg average. The t444 would be closer to 8+ mpg.International had there own version of of big gas engines, all the way up to there 549.
