Jun 19, 2022 · The e609 Microphone is a guitar amplifier that needs to be placed somewhere close to the sound source for a desirable sound outcome. The never ones have a brighter top and seem to have a bit of mid scoop. I use the E609 (black) on 4x12 cabs a lot. in general there is a 421 a 57 and the black E609. all close mic'd. But the 468 was by far the fullest, hottest sounding, and most accurate sounding mic of the three. I'll do some experimenting with mic placement just to see if I can even out the results somewhat.

I’d go with a 57 then later get a e906 if you really want. It has sound between the 57 and e609 in my experience and opinion. The e609 is nice because you can hang it over the amp. But I think it might be more sensitive to placement because it’s super cardioid and right again he grill. The SM57 is a workhorse.

I have found that I have to put it further towards the outside of the speaker cone than I would other mic's. The 609 is still my go-to mic for live use though. As for the difference... I have used both mics before but never back to back, but can't figure out which I liked more. -the e609 sounds more open, transparent, and better on clean tones. Can sound a bit brash on overdriven tones. -The SM57 is more congested, more colored. Sounds pretty good with cleans, but rips with overdriven tones.
